Prevent Periodontal Disease

Posted on by admin

Periodontal disease is not something any of us want to have. It is a terrible thing to have happen, yet we are often careless when it comes to oral hygiene. Sure, we do the bare minimum, but we can all do more to keep our teeth and mouths healthy. If you think you have periodontal disease, then you should have your mouth checked out, but we all can do with a refresher on how best to take care of our mouths and teeth, so we can prevent periodontal disease from taking hold. It is very simple and there is no real reason everyone can’t take better care of their teeth.

Morning and Night Routine

The first thing we can all do is have a better morning and night oral health routine. Yes, we should all brush our teeth twice a day and that usually happens before you go to work or go to bed. However, you should also include flossing in your nighttime routine. A good alcohol-free mouthwash can be something you introduce, both night and day, along with brushing. These two additions will do wonders for the health and wellbeing of your mouth. A good morning and night routine is a great first step toward oral health.

Diet and Drink

The next thing you will want to focus on to help keep periodontal disease at bay, is your diet. Drinking plenty of water is not just great for your mouth, but it is great for your overall health, so if you do nothing else, start drinking more water. What you eat can also harm your oral health if you are not careful. It is not just as simple as avoiding sugars, you should also try to avoid starchy foods. Foods like potato chips get stuck in molars and they can cause real damage to your mouth and gums if you are not careful. Try to eat clean and introduce plenty of leafy green vegetables into your diet.

Dentist Visits

Your parent is no longer in charge of taking care of all your health check ups. This includes your dentist visits. You need to make sure you get to a dentist at least twice a year for a check up. If you think there is something wrong with your mouth, then don’t wait, go see a periodontist as soon as possible.
